President Rodrigo Duterte will be declaring a public health emergency in the country after a recommendation made by the Department of Health Saturday afternoon as the number of Filipino infected with COVID-19 rose to six.
“Pursuant to the recommendation of the DOH and my suggestion as Chair of the Senate Committee on Health, President Rodrigo Duterte has agreed to issue a declaration of a State of Public Health Emergency due to the confirmation of a local transmission of COVID-19,” Senator Bong Go said in several news reports.
DOH also raised its alert to Code Red Sub Level 1 after a patient tested positive for the virus which was locally transmitted.
“It will facilitate mobilization of resources and ease processes, including procurement of critical logistics and supplies and intensifying reporting and quarantine measures.” Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said.
Duque added that the Code Red is a preemptive call for both the national and local governments as well as the health care providers to prepare for a possible increase in suspected and confirm case of COVI-19.
